I am pleased to announce the date and time for the 2013 KY ASTA solo competition, to be held at the University of Louisville.
Please fill out the entry form and return to Sid King ([email protected]) if you have any students who are interested in performing at this event. Due to University scheduling
guidelines, there’s a fast turn-around on this, but I do hope that you have someone in your studio who could make a run at this and will the $150 cash prize!

National High School Honors Orchestra
Note from the National President Bob Phillips:
Good News!
The application process for the 2014 National High School Honors Orchestra (NHSHO) will be easier this year.
This past January, the ASTA Board of Directors approved the use of DecisionDesk. This software simplifies what the state chapters need to do for the applicants
and allows broader access for participation. As always, there will be a national committee to review the applications. Of note, DecisionDesk was successfully implemented for the 2013 ASTA's National Solo Competition audition materials.
This method of audition benefits students too-it allows applicants to gain experience by directly applying to a program online . . .the trend of the future.
Additionally, state chapters are no longer limited to nominating just 30 students from their state. Teachers, who are ASTA members, can now nominate their own individual string or wind students. The teacher only needs to provide the web address to their students for them to apply. ASTA believes this process for NHSHO will reach more students otherwise overlooked with the old application method.
