The newest student chapter of KY ASTA was formed in the Fall of 2011 at Western Kentucky University. It is sponsored by WKU professor Bill Scott.

The newly elected officers include:

President: Josh Bloecher
Vice President: Samantha Miller
Secretary: Keith Pennington
Treasurer: Sarah Teitloff
WKU Faculty Advisor: Dr. Bill Scott
Fundraising: Alyna Bloecher
Chapter Advisor: Susan Houghton

The student members are busy assisting public school programs in their area and organizing events on campus. The WKU Chapter invited a luthier to lead a workshop on choosing instruments and bows and how to perform minor self-repairs on instruments. The students plan to hold several other workshops this semester as well as attend the ASTA conference in March. As our chapter grows, it will strive to become more involved in string related events and public school programs in their community.


Formed in 2010, the University of Louisville KY ASTA Collegiate Student Chapter is sponsored by U of L Bass Professor, Sidney King.

The UofL student chapter meets bi-weekly to meet with guest teachers, participate in instrument swaps, play pieces on secondary instruments, and participate in string ed. workshops. Additional activities include coaching small ensembles in Jefferson Co. middle schools.

The newly formed chapter is looking forward to performing at the upcoming KY ASTA Luncheon in February 2011.


Eastern Kentucky University Collegiate Student Chapter of KY ASTA was formed in 2008. Professors Jeremy Mulholland (violin, viola) and Nathan Jasinski (cello) are the sponsors of this dynamic organization.

EKU ASTA had a successful year in teaching.  We have been assisting the Richmond Area Arts Council with a Friends of the Arts  program.  Several of our EKU ASTA members are instructors of this program.
We are also planning attending next years conference in Kansas City, MO.  If there is anything that EKU ASTA can do to assist on a state level, please do not hesitate to contact us.  Thank You.

Eastern Kentucky University chapter of ASTA performed Christmas carols and other Christmas medleys for the patients of Markey Cancer Center, located on the campus of University of Kentucky. Special thanks to Ashley Howe EKU ASTA Membership Chairperson for coordinating this event.

The chapter also held a performance at First Christian Church of Versailles as a chapter fundraiser. The audience consisted of 64 people, double from the 32 who attended last Christmas. This was EKU ASTA's 2nd Annual Christmas Festival of Strings.
